Types of DSL
ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) is faster downloading (up to 6.0 Mbps) than uploading (up to 1.088 Mbps). ADSL is typically used in residential settings or small offices, where it shares a phone line.
SDSL (Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line) provides high bandwidth in both directions (up to 1.544 Mbps). It's typically used for business applications such as email, file transfers and Web hosting.

| What is DSL? |
| DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) uses telephone lines to transmit and receive high speed Internet data. DSL is always connected and eliminates a dial-up modem. DSL is up to 50 times faster than dial up and 12 times faster than ISDN (the original digital technology). DSL is used for email, Internet access, web hosting, intranets, extranets and virtual private networks. A DSL router is installed on an existing Ethernet network or to a network card in a PC. It's connected through SCB routers to a multiplexer at the telephone company. |
